Roof support questions

Hello. My attic is a pretty typical attic. There is a flat 4 foot wide space down the middle and off of both sides extends diagonal 2x4's that are on I would guess a 40 degree angle to the roof joists.

Basically, I want to know if it's bad to remove one of these supports so I can have an opening through the diagonal 2x4's in order to store boxes under the rows of 2x4's? I want to put down some plywood under the diagonal 2x4's to create some more storage space. I just need an access point to get through them.

Will removing one of these diagonal 2x4's compromise the integrity of the structure?

thanks for reading. I hope that made sense.

They are most likely supports
Removing one could cause a problem with the roof
Post a pic if you can

If all rafters/ceiling joists etc are 2x4 then it is a truss system & you can't touch anything

I will take a pic tomorrow when I can get up there. I'm not sure if it's 2x4 on top or just the diagonal ones.

Ok, I think that worked.

So, based on this pictures is it safe to say that it would not be ok to remove one of these supports?

I was thinking of even cutting the top one and putting a cross piece 2x4 above the entrance to the storage area.

So, yah or nay?

Your Roof will definetely sag if 1 is removed.
This roof is hand framed & there is an option.
If you take 1 out, don't go all the way to the rafter.
Put in a double 2x6 on the diagonal as you would when installing a header for a door or window.
This shoud be enough but you could install cripples on both sides as well
