roof relly sagging

Hello, Im a first timer to this site! My question is, I have a roof that is sagging by about 3 inches. This is a very old roof but in good condition other than the sag. Right now it looks like about 32inch between rafters (rafters 3 in.x5in.) with one cross piece runnin a span approx. 10 feet to other rafter. It has no knee wall or anything.Would it be possible to jack the rafters up ,and then build a knee wall to support. The ceiling joists are 2 in. by 7 in. on 16 in. centres(really old wood). What do I do please help Thanks

Is the decking sagging or is it the rafters?

you may want to install cat`s between the rafter space, need pics to properly see what`s up,sounds like you had a shake roof ,and they removed the purlins prior to resheathing??

roof relly sagging

Hi. I have a sagging roof over a 3-car garage area. There are no wall supports under this area, but the adjacent kitchen, living @ dining area do have interior walls but no sagging roof over these areas. Some of the trusses over the garage have pulled apart at the between spreader supports.
If I jack up the ceiling in the garage and reconnect the supports will this correct the valleys on each side of the peak, and solve the problem so I can remove the jacks?

Binker & Farmer7,

Diagram and post photos. Time to address the problems you both advise may be when you are ready to re-roof. Framer7 do you have a ridge board? It doesnt sound like it.

Need a lot of detailed pics. And you can't just install kneewalls without proprer support for them. It might need an engineer.
