Roof leaking where it intersects wall..

Hi, I could really use some help on how to fix this. We have brick in the front of our house that goes half way up, at that point it meets siding which goes up the rest of the way to the roof. Where the brick and siding meet by the garage, the roof of our porch intersects the wall, this is where we are having a leak. It leaks down the face of the brick. We first thought it had something to do with the gutters, but now I'm not so sure and think it may be the flashing of the roof. My husband is in Iraq & I'm not very confident in my DIY skills. Would I contact a roofer or a siding contractor to fix this? I would also like to know, if possible, what would be involved in fixing it so I don't get ripped off. Thank you very much!

Roof leaking where it intersects wall..

Hello Mellody and welcome aboard!

Without a first hand look see, it's really hard to say what is causing the problem you describe in your post. It could be the flashing or the gutters or a combination of both that are causing the problem.

A picture would be worth alot here. Most likely a good hand from roofing or siding company could take care of this, the problem you may run into is finding someone willing to even look at such a small job.

You might want to think about submitting your project thru an online contractor locator/matching services. There are several, just run a google search for "Find a Contractor". Nathan even has one or two companies that are sponsors of this site and you will see their links usually to the right side of the page. The one service that I've had experience with and am very happy with from the contractor's side is www.renovationexperts.com. I'd submit the project under waterproofing or guttering.

If you want to try & fix this yourself, you'r going to have to get a ladder and get up there & take a look at what's going on. Just keep in mind that water will always take the path of least resistance to the ground.

HTH

You don't say where you are but if you were near me, this would be a freebee. Drop by your nearest AMVETS or VFW and I'm sure that help will follow. We take care of ours.

Housedocs - thanks I will check them out.

Teetorbilt - how nice are you! Unfortunately, I'm way over in Utah. I honestly don't mind paying for it to be fixed, it comes with owning a house, but I want to make sure it gets done right & I don't get talked into a bunch of stuff I really don't need to have done. I'm going to ask around and see if my neighbors can recommend anyone.

Thanks again.

A skilled roofer, Like Schindler Roofing, near Salt Lake city, would be the best bet. They know how to deal with most waterproofing situations, i.e. siding/brick/porch roof transitions.

Thanks Aaron, it's funny you mention them, we went through them last year to fix some leaking pipe boots and found them to be very professional. I guess I'll just go through them again.

Hard to tell but it sounds like you might need kick-out flashing.
