I have an older home that I am restoring. I am not a roofing expert but the roof has a leak right at the chimney and it ruined a large section of drywall. I removed the drywall and sealed all of the gaps that I found but still have a leak at the top. When I looked up top I noticed there is no flashing around the chimney. I was told it is too much trouble to install flashing on the chimney right now and to wait until I get the roof replaced. What is the best way to seal this? Also my roof is good for at least 4-5 more years. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.
I agree...flashing can do wonders to save your house from water infiltration. Here's a story that gives a good overview of how it's installed. A little technical if you're not doing it yourself, but it helps to know what the contractor is talking about!
