Roof Decking Replacement

My existing roof sheathing/decking are wooden planks with small gaps between them. I dont think this would be a good base for the new shingles i am going to be installing. Can i install new 4x8 OSB directly over these planks or should i remove the planks and then install all new OSB sheathing, or should i just shingling over the existing plank decking?

It is very common to go over perlins with osb. We do it all the time.

Can i use regular 7/16 OSB to cover the deck or 1/2" plywood and should i glue whatever i use down? If im goin over the existing planks i dont want to put too much added weight on the roof.

Just nail it down with #8 penny nails, no glue needed.
It's done all the time there is not weight issue with just 1/2 sheathing.
Plywood or OSB will work.

Roof Decking Replacement

Well i started installing OSB over the existing planks. Where i have two 4x8 sheets butted up together (4ft ends), i didn't end them on the rafters which i wanted to do and just nailed through the existing planks. Same thing along the 8ft sides, nailed through the planks. I was just wondering if these nails will be popping back up at all since the planks arn't in the best shape and the nails don't seam to grab the best. I used 16's and nailed those into the rafters and 8's around the perimeter. Do i need the 8's along the 8ft side or will nailing into the rafters with 16's and nails along the butt ends be fine. Since i installed some sheets allready i was going to go in the attic and put a 2x4 where the butt ends meet so theres more to nail to.
