Roof Deck
I own a top-floor condo near Boston and have the roof rights above my unit. I'm interested in building an 150 sf or so deck on the flat roof. The roof already has a wide stairway for access. There is electricity and lighting up in the roof. My condo does not have any outdoor space, so I'm interested in getting some space to sit in the sun, BBQ, have a couple of friends up there.
Can anyone tell me what I should consider for this project. I am not planning to do it myself, but rather hire someone. The roof is in great shape, only 2 or three years old. It's black rubber and I assume a deck would have to be built over a special frame to protect the integrity of the rubber roof. If the roof needed repair, I assume the deck would have to be dismantled. I know this isn't a lot of detail, but does anyone have a ballpark idea how much this might cost (roof deck structure, wood, a gate, railings, design, labor)? What are some of the things I should consider? Does anyone have roof deck building experience to share? |
