Roof Cleaning before replacement..

In the Southeast US roof stains have become out of control. The hardy algae, Gloeocapsa magma has spread across the region and is reported now on both coasts.
40% of homeowners believe that the Black Roof Stains are actually the result of shingle granules having been washed off, thus exposing the tar. As a result they pay thousands of dollars to replace the roof.
They SHOULDN'T!
The Black Shingle Stains are actually covering the granules, and they can be removed by roof cleaning. Roof Cleaning is largely unknown, and roof contractors would rather it stay that way.

Look around your neighborhood...
Look on the roof...
Do you see black stains?

We are trying to determine how widespread the algae has become so that Cleaner Today can assist new business development in the hardest hit areas.

Please post back with what % of roof you see stains on, and what state/province you are in.

Why would roof contractors rather see it that way? We clean the roofs! Please stop spreading derogatory crap about contractors. You should market to us...WTF are you thinking?

I agree with aaron. Make something for contractors that is commercial grade....something that really works. This would be worth making instead of another DIY homeowner wonder cleaner that is $10 at walmart.

I have seen all of this on light colored shingles that do not heat up enough to dry out. I always try to sell a darker shingle and if they already have a problem I sell the algae resistant shingles.

Problem is a lot of that cleaning crap just dries out the asphalt in the shingles and decreases the roof life. but it will look nice for a brief period.
