Rolled roof

A friends neighbor wants to replace his rolled roof on a small shed. The shed is about 12' by 12'. The slope of the roof is about a 5/12 pitch. After he removes the old rolled roof. Should he replace it with regular tab shingles or use rolled roofing again?

How would he put down the rolled roofing?

Does he roll out the rolled roofing and just nail at the top edge?
Does he put a bead of tar along this top edge/sides and then roll the next row above it?
Or does he have to hot mop the rolled roof to the surface?

Any other suggegtions?

thanks

I would just use 3 tab shingles myself, rolled roofing sucks...

Yeah, I agree, use three tab, or better yet, laminated shingles. They'll last longer and look better. The directions are on the wrapper and they are easier to put down well than rolled roofing.

He will be selling the house and does not want to put a lot of money into the roof.

Why replace it then? I would rather use something decent.

There isn't going to be a big difference in price. The shingled roof can be done for about 100 in materials.
