Replacing Roof with Certainteed.Replace existing Ridge Master ridge vent?

I am having to replace my roof because I got new LeafGuard gutters that do not fit snug to the old roof line. Decided on Certainteed shingles and have reputable contractor. Question now is does the existing 15 year old Ridgemaster ridge vent get replaced as well? What issues will I have if it is not? What is the new best ridge vent product?

The roofing forum seems to have lost some of its knowledge base.
I’ll take a crack at it though. The roof should be shingled all the way up until the cut vent slots in the roof. The ridge vent, depending on if it’s the type that I’m thinking of, is nailed through the shingles below it so it would need to come off anyway. I don’t think it would be salvageable after removal.

Clutchcargo is pretty much right although if you do take your time you may be able to salvage the old ridgevent but why? You are having a new roof put on because some gutter guards you bought done fit so you obviously have the money. Why do everything new except the ridgevent? I believe the best ridgevent system out there is the Gaf/Elk Sno Country brand.

Ok, read the ESI Reports. Does anyone have an opinion on Air Vents, Shingle Vent II vs. GAF's Snow Country Cobra? If I am replacing, like you said, "want to do it right."

Shinglevent II and Sno Country are basically the same in that they create something called the Bernoli Affect. Basically meaning that air flows in one side of the vent to be pulled out by the otherside thus getting more airflow. I havent looked in awhile but I think that one box of Sno Country is equivilant to 42 regular box vents or something around there. I only use the Sno Country but have not heard of any problems with the Shingle Vent II.
