Question

Repairing a roof with different materials

I have a home with wind damage 30-40 sections on 4 different parts of my roof. The home has Atlas Chalet singles, which are no longer available. They also had some problems with blistering. My insurance company has approved a repair not a replacement even though the new shingles wont match. Is it possible to make a repair and blend it in with the rest of the roof? Will it look bad? I would love some opinions from roofers.

It is definitely possible to make repair with similar shingles, odds are it will look awful.

Why not pay the differance and do the whole roof and make it look perfect?

If this was your car the insurance company would have totaled it. What sort of asinine insurance company do you have so I am sure not to use them?

There has been a lot of complaints on that shingle on this forum, I would not use them on a dog house, well maybe a small dog house for a water dog.

30-40 sections --- "blistering"?!?
I don't know who your insurance co. is -
most of the ones we've dealt with -
if it's as bad as it sounds -- tear-off/re-roof.

Do you have a mortgage?

Well it wouldn't look good since the materials you are going to use are not the same. If you want to save that would be a good option too. If you want you can replace the whole thing but that would cost you more.

the insurance company says that even though the shingle is no longer available, that a roofer could hand pick to match the roof. I think it would look ugly too

"Hand pick to match the roof"?!?!
What?!?

Nope!

Even if you had "squares"/bundles of the original shingles -
the new stuff would not match the old!!!

If you could find shingles that were the same as yours -
If the batch/run/lot number was different -
They will not match!
