Redoing a roof

I have a three season cottage and I need to redo my cathedral ceiling to add a vapour barrier in. We had ice build up over the winter as we heated with a newly installed wood stove.

Roof shingles need to be replaced this spring so my taught was to add 2' by 4's on the existing roof and cover with plywood then reshingle. Vents will need to be added as well to create proper airflow.

Am I on the right track?
I'm looking for the most effective way of doing this.

Having a hard time try to figure out the logic of doing it that way.
Google EPS and check this method out instead.

It's foam panels with OSB attached to the insulation that goes over the sheathing that's on the roof now.

You would have to remove the shingles you have now.

Hmmmm.... I guess it doesn't hurt to have more insulation. The roof is already insulated from the inside. I need to keep cold air circulating (air barrier) to prevent ice build up and also looking for a cost effective solution.

Definitely food for thought.

You should check and see what the attic/ceiling thermal insulation requirement is for your region before you start adding additional insulation - to ensure that you are not overkilling what you have.

Also, check and make sure that your existing rafters or trussess, can handle additional roof material load (weight) + snow loads.
