I was laying new shingles (3 tab)on an older house , everything was going fine until about half way up then I couldn't keep my rain slots aligned, I looked down the plane of the roof and I noticed that the bottom half of the roof was flat plane and the roof starts to belly (2" drop in the middle with a line from rake to rake)once you get past the half way mark. So the alignment starts to pull left, because the shingles now have farther to go down the drop and back up. Any ideas for the next time?
That is a lot of deflection. I think you should have corrected the structural problem first.
As far as Key allignment, Use a diagonal offset installation pattern, instead of trying to line up the keys. It looks much better than aligned keys anyway IMHO. Go to Malarkey Shingles website, Residential, three tab, Installation.
Malarkey Shingles are excellent.
