Question for step flashing

Well I am gonna help someone with a roof and I have run some before but I am no pro. Where the main house meets the garage there is a overhang that goes back about 16" and is covered on both sides. So I worked on a job almost 2 years ago that was kinda like that and the guy I was working with didn't use flashing.

So should I use flashing under the overhang?

Btw the sooner I know the better, thanks !

Edit: and the overhang is only about 1' high

Yes, you should still use step flashing in that area also.
