Question about this wind-damaged flashing:

Hey Folks,

I heard some rattling around on the roof after a good windstorm and went up to inspect. Looks like quite a bit of this flashing (about 3" wide) pulled away in several places. I'm not a roofing expert, and I noticed that it doesn't overlap with any shingles or the ridge cap, so for the life of me I can't figure out what purpose it serves... Does this need to get repaired/replaced? Is it a priority?

Many Thanks!

It looks like zinc strips to me.Rather than remove all of it I would use some tin snips and cut them off from where the pulled away.

Seal the nail holes and be done with it.If you try to remove all of it you could get into trouble in the valley if your not careful.
