portico rubber roof - vinyl post installation?

Could you give some suggestions on the best/easiest way to install/fasten a vinyl post on top of my front entrance portico, flat rubber roof?? Existing wooden railing system and posts are rotted and I want to replace with vinyl system. Don't know whether to sleeve the vinyl post over a toe-nailed 4 X 4 or use a metal installation kit, or what?

Hate to penetrate the rubber roof membrane, but must figure out best way to do it. Builder apparently toe-nailed the 5 X 5 wooden posts in, seemingly without caulking or flashing around the bases, now rotted.

Thanks
Ed

portico rubber roof - vinyl post installation?

I have the same issue although the leaking came from poor flashing where my portico attaches to the house. I have to replace a bunch of rot. When I do I want to put up vinyl railings without penetrating the rubber roof membrane. I hope someone out there can answer this question...

Hi,

It is impossible to put railings up without penetrating the roof.

Fairway makes metal inserts for the posts. This is the easiest way to get it water tight.
