Portico Leaking?

I have a portico over my front door of my all brick house. After today's rain, I noticed that the brick under th portico was slightly wet at the top edges directly under the portico.

Do you think this brick is wet because the portico needs more caulking on the edge, or do you think it's normal because the brick above the portico just absorbed the rain water and eventually moved down due to gravity, of course.

Not all the brick under the portico was wet. Just a few spots.

Sounds like your sidewall flashings need attention. Whether it's the actual flashings or brick needs some re-pointing, can't tell you that. But if it's under the covered area, something is wrong.

Even though something is "wrong," I can't think of any detrimental effects of this though, since it's all external.

True, other than moisture getting into the wood framing of the roof deck and rotting it out. I was just pointing out what the issues were.

I checked today and flashing seems solidly sealed.

Portico's are usually built like decks, in that the ledger board is made out of pressure treated wood. I think the water is just seeping down the brick after all, brick is a porous material.
