Patch a hole in my roof

Well I just had my plumbing inspection on my kitchen and it turns out my sink vent pipe needs to be moved as it's to close to my upstairs window. I will be having the plumber move it this week and he said he will cap the pipe so it won't leak until I repair the hole. Can anyone let me know what steps I need to take to repair where the old hole is? My kitchen is open in the ceiling right now so I can see where the rafters run. I just don't know the first thing about repairing roofs so any help would be great. Also if you think it might be above me, what should I expect to pay to get this repaired?

Thanks.

It's only a round hole for 1 1/2" pvc pipe to fit through. Maybe the sheet metal would work. Thanks for the site link i'm sure it will come in handy.
