Overlapping courses of roof felt

I'm roofing a gambrel roof on a small, simple storage building. I've never done
roofing before.

How much overlap of the "next" course do I want over the course below?

When I get within one width of the top, or the break in slopes on either side (gambrel roof), do I overlap a course of felt over the change in slope, and nail it on both sides?

Any other tips on the felt part of the job? Seeyou gave me excellent responses to my earlier message, which I loaded with multiple questions, but this one I forgot till now.

Thx, folks.

Tom
