Open Gable Porch Roof

I am adding walls and a gable roof to an existing deck which is attached to the end of a house. The roof is an extension of the gable roof on the house. The deck and new roof extend 11 feet from the house. The width of the deck is 20 feet. The sides will be 10' high 2x4's on 16" centers. The rafters will be 2x8's.

Do I need a center post on the open gable end of the porch? I would like to leave it open from sidewall to sidewall.

What did the inspector say when looking at the plans?

Rural area. No inspector, no code.

Do I need a center post on the open gable end of the porch? By definition, that's a non-support area, so you should be OK. If the top is to be closed, be sure to use a cross beam, wall tie that will not sag.
