Old House needs new roof to add square footage

We have a very old home that has been added onto with various rooflines and is in need of a replacement roof to tie everything together.
What we want is this-a 14/12 roof with shed dormers running 80-90% of the A Framed roofline to allow for added sf of up to 1700sf.
I checked on Trusses at a cost of $6700.00 but also had this estimated by a contractor at $140,000.00 (Yes140k). Hard to understand how removing the old roof and adding trusses would cost this much.
Any ideas would be appreciated.

Was there any additional scope of work being supplied?

Electrical, plumbing, dywall, insulation, painting, carpeting, interior trim work, additional exterior framing, etc...?

How many other quotes did you get and did you have them quote similar specifications?

Adding 1,700 square feet usually costs more than $ 100.00 per square foot, so it sounds like you are getting a decent dweal if the entire scope is being provided.

The quote was well more than $1/sf.

Additional scope was to have it finished out completely. 2 full baths, 3 bedrooms, open area. Yes there are 2 dormers running 8 foot from each end all the way on both sides of an A Roofline.

Then that does not sound so far fetched as compared to describing only putting up new trusses with only a material cost of $ 6,700.00 now, does it?

The post is so generic and vague as to be of little or no use. Any information based on the post is useless. People will be giving best guess info. Not valid when it comes time to write the checks. Someone posting the costs in Kansas will not be valid if you live in the Northeast or a large city.
If this is a viable job you want done, get plans made and call in contractors who are familiar with this scope, in the region you live and are willing to take the time to give you a valid estimate because they want to do the job.

140,000.00$ divided by1700 sq. ft. =82.35 per sq ft.which in ny would be great,typical would be 100.00$-125.00$ per sq. ft.,and then add on for bathrooms,also considering you`d need new ceilings below the addition area,I wish more people would state their locations
