New Roof Question

As I type this, there are 5 guys on my roof installing a new one. I bought my house a year ago and recently discovered that the former owners had really let the roof go and had a lot of water leaks in the attic.

I won't get into how the sellers lied about the age of the roof on the sellers disclosure and how my home inspector also didn't see that the roof was twice as old as was claimed.

Needless to say there are a lot of black stains on the rafters that I can see from the attic.

Now that I have a new roof, I'm wondering how to best cover up the black staining in the attic. Reason being is in 5 years when i go back up in the attic and look at the staining, i want to know what is new and what is old.

(The rafters with really bad staining they're obviously replacing the wood due to rot)

I'm sure I could just use some paint but was wondering if anyone had any other clever ways of doing this.

Thanks!

New Roof Question

If they black then most likely it's mold.
Paint will do 0 good.
Need to be treated with something like this to kill and prevent the mold from coming back.

New Roof Question

Don't bother painting. Kill it like Joe references.

New Roof Question

Not quite sure why nobody is thinking about this, but if you did repaint, then any spots that show up after the repainting will be where the leaks are still at. You would have to put a primer like KILZ on there first though, because if not the mildew will just come through the paint.
