New house, ridge vents and no soffits

We just got a new/old (1946) house that has just had a new roof installed with ridge vents. Only issue I see is that there is absolutely no other attic ventilation other than the ridge vents. Obviously I need to add soffit vents or something. Not sure what that something might be. The

This house also has very short eaves. The soffits are currently some old fiber siding of some sort that has rotted in several places and I have considered replacing all of them with the Hardy board that has the vent holes in it. Seems like a reasonable solution to solve two problems.

Any other thoughts? This is in Midland Tx, HOT summers, 99% direct sun and mild winters.

Just be sure that the soffit area is clear up into the attic and you reposition any insulation at the soffits so air can flow through freely.

I really like the continuous soffet vent. That looks like a relatively easy installation. Considering how the roof was done, I'm not even sure the ridge vents are functional. I can see they are up there but I haven't gotten into the attic to see how they where installed. Thanks for the link.

Now I have something to go by. I see I need to measure how many feet of ridge vent I have and see how that compares to the sq ft of the house. I'm thinking the ridge vents aren't going to be enough on the exhaust end.

Thanks agin for the links and information.
