New Help with my roof

Hello to all. I am in desperate need of advice for my roof. I have a flat roof that needs to be repaired. My first question is what type of material is this? please see picture. My second is about my roof repair. I have a rubber roof and need to know if I can cut off about a third of it, replace the wood underneath, then tape over the existing section with the new 1/3 piece. Thanks again for all your help.

further away pic please... I would guess rubberoid probably torch down.. yes you can cut out and patch, but you are getting into a can of worms..

I just saw the piece of work, But I want to know is this hand made or this is a computer graphic. Whatever is it, I have just liked it.
