Need tear-off?

Hi--new to forum--installing a new metal roof on a 1915 log cabin. Present roof is roll roofing and is in decent shape. Do I need to tear off before putting the purlins down or can I just install the metal roof over existing roof? Would save a lot of work and trash if I can just go over what is there. What do you all think?

Need tear-off?

Always nice to start with a clean slate but if it's the only roof and you are sure the roofdeck is sound it won't be an issue.
