Need suggestion on reroofing a small barn cheaply

Hi. Can you provide suggestions on what I should do about my stable/barn roof?--I want to spend as little as possible (and do-it-myself) since the stable is old and probably won't last more than 5 to 10 years before it will need to be torn down.

Current roof: (32' by 24') rolled roofing (1/6 pitch), winds have blown away all roofing on far side
and plywood underneath is rotten and needs to be removed--it looks terrible! Roof covering on the near side (visible from house) is partially blown away and the 1/2 wood underneath is rotten--there are occasional strong winds here.

I would consider tin roof but not the unpainted, metallic that looks so bad.
Rolled roofing is a last resort but I would prefer something that looks a little better and would hold up against the winds better.

And remember it only needs to last about 5 years
(the neighbors will complain if I leave it as is and I dont want to demo something
when it still has some life left)

You get what you pay for, period.. There are no cheap 5-year low-slope solutions that I know of.. Just imagining what you have going on a lot of time and energy are going to go into wood repair.. It is the wood repair that is going to make fixing it worth while or not. Sounds to me like tear down time is now. I would guess corrugated tin with ice and water shield underlayment would be your cheapest 5-year option. Rolled roofing, if installed correctly will hold up to the wind just fine.. No, shingles are not a 5-year option..

Why put an ounce of effort into if it's going to come down in 5 years?

Put a cheap tin roof on it. You can paint it first. It will certainly give you the 10 years you are looking for, and very easy to install.
