Need help deciding giving this chimney flashing contractor a second chance

His flashing is leaking extensively. Brand new roof installed this summer, hired a "professional" to handle the chimney repair and flashing so that it would be done right... ha.

He's agreed to come back and reflash, but said this in his email...

"I will remove all the counter flashing and reinstall it without any historic flashing in place. I can not go back to the step flashing because of the grind line, but I promise that when I am done, my flashing will not be the cause of the leaking."

I didn't understand the bit about the step flashing not being able to be removed (its old flashing he was suppose to replace).

Should I trust him?

When I remove and replace counter flashing sometimes creating a new grind line is required.IMO the old counter flashing has to be removed.I always remove the old and install the new.If I am not mistaking that was the reason for installing the CF with the new roof.

Try calling and make an appointment for him to return and explain his intentions.

Tear off the metal, tear off the shingles around the chimney, pre flash with ice and water shield, ne step flashing as necessary, custom bend stepped counter flashing, saw cut mortar joints to match the steps in the counter flashing, install flashing, seal with POLYURETAHEN caulk.

LOL he can't grind the mortar joints?! LOL.

Flashign a chimney takes definite know how, and there is more to it than my run on sentence above, but if he doesn't know how to gring or saw cut mortar joints for the flashing forget about him.
