need to cool a tin roof

Hi everyone,
My apologies for a bit of gate-crashing... I am not a d-y-i-er, but need some help from people who are. I live in southern California, where we have a nice screened porch that gets full sun most of the day. The roof is made of tin or aluminum, painted white. The porch gets very hot because the tin radiates heat down into the porch. Any ideas for how to solve this, that don't involve changing the roof? (I'm a renter.)

Thank you so much!

I have seen sheet metal roofs with a flat sprinkler hose installed. When it gets warm they will run the sprinkler and the water will cool the roof. Don't know how effective that is, but I have seen it on many roofs here in the deep south. Also, it is a waste of good water if you aren't using run off. Might not be a good solution for you, but thought I would mention it.

I have heard of people using the paint like Bob mentions. Another option might be a radiant barrier of some type on the ceiling. If you google radiant barriers you will find lots of information.

Hot tin roof

Monarch Paint company sold to me few years back a additive that was very very tiny cerminic beads. Add it to my paint and painted as normal and it reflected the heat away. I live in central Texas, Last summer we were seeing 115 degree days my metal roof was cool enough to touch. Goodluck
