Nails vs Staples

Hi everybody .

I am new at this forum and as home owner as well. My girlfriend and I are very close to put an offer for the house here in Florida. Here is our dilemma...
House is under foreclosure and there is lots of things that we will need to tackle to call it a home. It's a 2 story home, lower level is CBS and second Flor is a wood frame. My major concern is roof. It looks nice from outside and there is no visible leaks or water damage, but plywood sheets underneath the roof tiles are stapled not nailed. I heard that staples are illegal in FL.
I am affraid that any larger hurricane could put us in danger. On the other end house is on perfect location for us, and we are impressed with overall condition (it's still a foreclosure home). This could be a deal breaker (or not?).
I am wondering what you guys and gals think.

How longs the roof been on?
Only time I've seen staples used on roof in mobile homes and store bought shed.
I would not pass on it just because of that.

What's those shingles made of?
I could be wrong but I would guess what your seeing is staples used to hold down the tar paper, I've never seen nore do I see anyway staples could have been used with that style roof to hold the tiles on.

I saw staples in the plywood few inches on the left, from the point where all 3 2/4's connecting.I will need to take some pictures up close, climb up and check for nails. Any particular place where i should look?

Sorry i missed... Shingles are made of concrete think.

Who knows, they may have attached sheating with staples.
I'd find something else to worry about.

It's VERY unlikely that those tiles are installed with staples. Tiles of that nature have holes in them which nails go through. It's more probable that the sheathing was covered in a membrane, and THAT was stapled. Why don't you call a roofer and see if they could do an inspection for you...or call and ask a general question and see if that helps you? At any rate, looks like a nice home and best of luck to you.

You say that the SHEATHING was stapled. How would you know, assuming that they hit the trusses with the fasteners. Those staples are in the felt, as Joe says.

By the way, what is CBS? I thought it was a television Network?

Do you mean CMU?

Nice house, by the way. Concrete tile, right? Im amazed those trusses take that kind of weight, you are looking at maybe 800lb. a square.

Excuse my ignorance We can talk whole day about marketing, but when it comes to construction i dont know much
