Missing shingles on roof

I just climbed on my roof and found that some shingles are gone a small area maybe 1 square foot exposing the wood underneath. I'm not sure how long it has been like this since this was my first trip on the roof since I bought the house back in june of 08. Is this bad and is there a quick and easy solution until I have the roof redone?

Thanks,
Dank

Missing shingles on roof

Buy some more shingles and weave them back into the roof. You'll have to remove the nails from at least 2 courses above the last missing shingle. Remove any scraps or other shingle debris first. Malco makes a nice Roofer's Bar (Pronounced Roofster Bar around here.) for this project.

The PB-18 Prybar is the 'Roofster Bar'.
The other one is nearly worthless. Slide the blade under a nail, and the curve won't allow you to pry. It's called a 'Wonder BAr' because you wonder how you're supposed to accomplish anything with it.
