Metal vs.Shingle

So I'm in search of the best roofing option and it appears local contractors can't give me a straight answer so here I am... What is better, a 30 yr arch. shingle OR Metal roofing?

Metal vs.Shingle

A cheaper and thinner quality metal roof and any inferior fastening system would not provide the long term benefits supposedly derived from the higher quality metal roofs.

A high quality metal roof, regardless of material product choice will cost substantially more than a 30 year architectural shingle.

So, what really needs to be determined, is what is your budget for the project?

Metal vs.Shingle

There is no comparison to the two systems.
Compare the metal roof to a designer shingle, the cost an longevity are closer with those two but the metal will still hold up longer if installed properly.

The metal roof will still cost more then even the designer shingle.

Like the first to posters said, what type of metal system and what type of structure it will be installed on will determine the longevity of the system almost as much as the installation spec's/workmanship.

Metal vs.Shingle

Wow, now you have me thinking... The company gave me 2 options and I'll tell you what, I'm a little lost. (one is $1.85 lf and the other is $2.05 lf) I'm not too entirely sure what the difference is. I have a 51 square roof and I know it will cost a small fortune to have it in metal, however everytime I go to mow the lawn... there's another shingle off. I'm in a high wind area and a concerned with longevity. I appreciate all of your responses!!! Thank you so much!
