I have a 24" overhang and would like to know which product to use. I have a 2x4 on the ens of my trusses with a 1x6 facia board. The temperatures range from -40 to 35. I have been told by each building supply store that the other product is better. Iam worried about the vinyl sagging over that span, but it seems less forgiving that metal if a ball hits it, yes the kids. Thanks in advance
Aluminum and/or vinyl soffit material comes in 12' lengths and various widths and styles -solid or slotted-. Because of the way it is formed, usually with 4" wide battens it is very stable in 2' X 2'
panels. It becomes less so at 3'-12' lengths without some form of intermediate bracing. You do need to run 'J' channel around your soffit area perimeter also.
I think Bud is saying the same thing but in a technical term. 24" span with Vinyl is a bit much. I'd go Aluminum in this case. I use vinyl myself whenever possible for a few reasons but you have a large overhang.
