metal roof questions

I want to put a metal roof on a back porch.
The porch now only has the roof joists. about 3/12 pitch.
Livin in Pennsylvania, we get all type of weather.
I want to know what to put down after the joists.
Can I just put 1x4's spaced apart and if so how far apart.
Fot the roof, where do I screw the screws, on the ridge or flats ??
And also flashing next to house, what to use with metal ?
etc.
Any help with these questions and possibly more input would be helpful

You need a solid surface to install the 2X2 wood strips. On top of the 2X2 you install the metal roof. The easiest and safest is to install 1/2" plywood and then on top of the plywood you install the 2x2 then comes the metal roof. That question depends on the type of metal roof system you use. You're talking about using purlins which is commonly done. All the info you'll ever need about metal roofing can be found here: http://www.metalroofing.com/ and there's a forum there under "ask the experts."
