Metal Roof on Mobile Home

Our present roof is shingles and we've had some leaks. I would like to get a metal roof. Should the old shingles be taken off? My contractor says he'll use the present venting, is this adequate? Also, he will not put drip edges, are they necessary?

Venting has nothing to do with the roof surface or temperatures. It is to remove humidity.

I prefer to remove shingle layers before putting down metal. It allows you to properly address the roof deck and removes the additional thermal mass (most often a detriment) off of the home.
