Metal Roof Installation

My mother recently had a metal roof installed on her house, and while looking at it, I notice that along the edge near the gutter, there was a peice of exposed foam going along the edge on both side of the house. Is this normal? It seems to me that the foam would absorb water and eventually cause leaks. Also the edge of the roof is very wavy.

Metal Roof Installation

Some metal systems (such as standing seam) have concealed fasteners that hold the panels 3/8-1/2" off the deck. The foam piece you see is probably a closure.

Metal Roof Installation

Post a photo if you can.

It may be a closure strip or it may be an underlying vapor barrier or miniscule insulation.

How far does it stick out?
