mending plates in place of H-clips?

Has anyone ever heard of using mending plates (see photo) also called, Truss Nail Tooth Plates or simpson plate as a replacement for h-clips. THese mending plates are metal plates with shallow teeth on 1 side. My roofer wanted to use them because he forgot to use h clips. Any opinions appreciated. Thank you

I call them Gang Nails and have never used them or ever seen Anyone use them as a replacement for the clips.

The only time I ever used the clips is when someone cheaps out and sheets the roof with 7/16 osb (to the rafters not over skip sheathing).

5/8” CDX (what you should be using) needs no clips and certainly no gang nails.

Not going to work, without a press there's no way to even install them. You would beat plywod or OSB to pieces trying to set them all the way in.
Since it's his mistake make him now go back and block every seam from inside the attic with 2 X4's.

In 30 years I may have seen two houses with 5/8" sheathing on a roof so if that's not what was used do not sweat it. 7/16 by far is most commonly used.
5/8 would make a stronger roof but I'd bet there's not that many with it out there unless there's something like Tiles, slate, or some other heavy roofing going on it's not needed.
