I am hoping that someone can please give me some advice about repairing my leaking roof. The leak is at the chimney, where it meets the roof. I've been up there to look, and there seems to be tar globbed on around the base, and I can see where the tar has pulled away from the chimney. My roof is metal (standing seam), the house was built in 1932. The chimney is made of brick.
How should I approach this problem? Should I try to repair what's there? Using tar or silicone?
It's really disheartening. The water runs down two rafters, drips at the knee wall, and finds its way to our dining room ceiling...a nice ceiling that we made custom from birch ply. Water stained now, of course
