Lead troubles!!! Help please

Hi there.

Id really appreciate any advice any one can give me regarding this mater. im a skilled labourer/general builder with experience of using lead for flashing but absolutely no experience with large sheets . My boss got me to cover a 2.5m dormer today and i really struggled. its all up and secure but it look terrible. there where lots of returns and i found it very difficult to keep the lead tight and strait when trying to fix it. I would have preferred to use smaller sections and put a welt down both sides but couldn't because the felt on the flat roof had already been torched. needles to say the new lead took a real beetling and i now need to find a way of making it look more even. should i use wire wool on all of it before applying paternation oil. and is there a correct methord of applying the paternation oil.

thanks
tom

Hi Roofmaster417. Will try to get some pics on here tomorrow, although i wont be particularly proud to put my name to it. but for now just imagine a large dormer with dobble doors aprox 2m x 1.2, covered with new lead that has taken quite a bashing to get it as tight as possible. the overall shape looks ok and im sure from the garden 3 below it looks fine. its just the discoloration from all the lots of small dents and marks im really concerned about. would wire wool be a bad idea?
