Large overhang venting?

I have a 28" overhang around my entire house. The sections that at eaves will have soffit vents and are open to the attic space. At the gabled sides it is not open to the attic and I was thinking of using solid material there. Is this OK or do I need to vent this are somehow?

Large overhang venting?

You just need to vent the eave soffit for inlet. You will have to provide some sort of outlet at or near the ridge and this could be a vent high in the gable wall.

If you're running some kind of soffit material up the gables/rakes/barge-
boards -
Usually, you don't vent that area - Vent the "Eaves" - substantially!!
I think the person is talking about an "overhang" that's a gable.
Solid material, running up the gables is acceptable.
(Sometimes - they have us vent it)
