Well after spending much time, probably too much according to my wife, on the boards, researching your thoughts, visiting a roofing products dealer, getting samples from manufacturers and probably being swayed by marketing, I think I have narrowed down my roof replacement products and wonder what your thoughts are about mixing products and the warranty issues this might create with the shingle manufacturer's initial 10 year warranty and then their prorated warranty.

I realize installation is everything and did find a very reputable roofing company in my area that will work with me and warranty their install for 10 years, but I am wondering if I should just stick with one of the manufacturers "systems"? They are certified by both CT and OC. Or should I just put faith into the thought that I think selected good products and I will not have issues down the road?

The job is only 11.5 squares and consists of a two story house and a small garage. I am leaning towards these products:
  • Grace Ice and Water Shield
  • GAF Deck Armor
  • Drip edge on the rakes
  • Gutter apron on the eaves
  • SmartVent at the eaves
  • ShingleVent II on the ridge
  • Landmark Premium shingles
Any thoughts at all on the products , the combination of them or warranty issues would be most appreciated. :)

[seeyou] Deck Armour will leak if left uncovered. It supposedly "breathes", but I'm not sure why that's necessary.

Left this product exposed to the weather for last four months waiting on brick layers to do their work and have had no water damage at all even tho it was our worse winter on record.

I'd stick with Certainteed products to get their best warranty since your installer is certified.

If your going for the manufacturers workmanship & material warranty then you want to use Certainteeds underlayments, if only going for their material warranty then you can use the underlayment of your choice.

You can read their warranty info- at their website.

Steve -

I used it twice and both times, we had to recover it. It only leaked during heavy thunderstorms and then it was just a drip here and a drip there all over the roof. Never used it in winter - just summer and had very heavy rains both times.
