James Hardie Soffit & Fascia

Having Hardie lap siding installed and now considering replacing our 20 year old Masonite soffit & fascia with Hardie. Your opinions and comments about James Hardie soffit and fascia please?

Strictly my own option, I can not stand the stuff.
Reasons being;
It's brittle until it's installed, I've had it crack just trying to get it out of the supply house and get it to the job on a flat bed trailer.
The dust that comes off of it when cutting it requires you to wear a dust mask.
A pain to nail it up with out splitting it.
It all needs to be painted slowing the job down.
All the cuts need to be primed and painted or it delaminates.
I've been using a lot of hidden vent beaded soffit material and sometimes PVC fascia installed over a sub fascia. No painting, easy to cut and attach, never breaks.

Really appreciate your opinion. Do the materials you use have specific brand names? I would like to find them. Again, thank you sir.

We just had our house re-sided. This is Certainteed vinyl siding and soffits. The fascia are made of trim coil - pvc-coated aluminum that they bend on site. The soffits have the hidden vents and they provide plenty of ventilation and they look very nice from below.

All of Joe's concerns are warranted. Those are the negatives. The positive of that stuff is that it is nearly indestructible. I've had it on my garage for 8 years.......the paint on it looks as good as the day I painted it. Like Joe said, it is a bit brittle. I carried 2 pieces of it, caught them on a corner, and they instantly snapped in two. Just be careful, follow the James Hardie guidelines for installation and you will have a long lasting product........much better than that Masonite.
