Installing asphalt shingles without nailing clearance?

We are adding a small room to the side of our home. There isn't enough room between the new roof and existing soffit to nail shingles. What can I do to fasten these shingles down securely?

I'm looking at using architectural asphalt shingles that match our current roof. There is about two feet of the roof where we won't be able to nail.

I would consider gluing them down, but with tar paper underneath, I'll only be gluing them to the paper and not the sheathing.

What can we do?

If its going under a 2' overhang on the side, cut the overhang in half. You will have to get flashings in there anyway.
