IKO Archetectural shingles

They say to nail at 13" and cut at 10", 20, 30 which only puts your nails 3" away.
Wouldn't it be better to cut at 5,10,15,20,25,30. So the nails are 5" away?

I don't install Iko's but if I did I would install them according to manufacture specs in the event of a claim for material warranty.

I've had nothing but trouble with Iko's there color matching sucks, even with the same batch number on the bundles they can look like two differant colors once there up.
