Looking for recommendations for an electric ice dam prevention system. I see there are a few different manufacturers and am looking for some real world advice. We have ice dams every winter and this one, with the sever snow NJ has been seeing has caused one like so far that I was able to stop when it first happened. Since I live in a Cape Cod style home with finished space, no attic and no sofits, fixing the issue with insulation isn't a viable solution.
You can retrofit capes pretty effectively depending on the layout but if you are set on heat cable, there are several types out there. Some go on the roof deck, others in the gutter. Which were you thinking about?
At minimum I need to do the gutters as that's where the bulk of the ice is. I'd imagine it would probably be best to do a fee feet up the deck too.
