How remove garage door opener
I got a old Sears garage door opener that is binding and I am thinking about
just removing it and going manual. I got a second bay that is manual with
exact setup except no automatic opener. Can I convert the automatic bay
to manual? It is the Sears Craftsman model 139.53310. Right now it is off line and stops 4 feet up. But really don't want a new one as seldom use it.

Usually you can leave the old opener in place and simply remove the lift bracket from the door---often there is a lynch pin that can be removed to remove the lift arm from the bracket.

Or just pull on the reliece rope to disconnect the door from the opener.

Most are spring loaded and will snap back in to the slide bracket when you raise the door, Joe. He'd be better off removing the bracket, like Mike said.

Remove the lift arm like previously stated, then pull the release rope and slide the carriage the lift arm was attached to back to the opener head end of the track. Keeps it out of the way of the door. If the track is mounted just above the door, within a few inches, the door will hit the carriage if its down at the door end of the track.
