The roof has already been there for more than 10 years. I do not know who is the maker of the roof shingles. I have tried the Zep House & Siding Pressure Wash but it is not effective. Hope someone can provide ideals to clean the dark streaks on the roof.

You can use a 50/50 mixture of bleach and water. Be sure to water any plants and grass in the splash area as the bleach could kill them.

I am unable to climb the roof because it is too slippery. I contacted the CertainTeed. They recommend two cleaners Shingle Shield and Safers moss and algae remover. Has anyone ever tried or head about them and which store carries them?

You need to get on the roof and spray down. If you use a pressure washer and spray up you run the almost certain risk of getting water under your shingles.
You might want to try a ladder with a roof hook, or you could stage it with roof brackets.

"how to easily..."

There's not always an easy way to do things, unfortunately, and this is one of them.

If you do not know it, just watch instead of providing useless idea.

Spraying upwards is a very bad idea.
Shingles are designed to shed water from the top down, introducing pressurized water in the opposite direction of what their designed for will have wet consequences. Most shingles have 2-3" of headlap(coverage over the joints) at most, it will take very little pressure to overcome that.

I am working on it. The tool is using the pressure wash gun but do not set the pressure very high. The only problem is to select the best cleaner. I have seen the HD carries the M-1 Deck & Roof Cleaner that has good rating. But, I am still looking for the cleaner that the CertainTeed recommended.

HD will ship the Safer product to the store for free.
You probably have to get Shingle Shield online.

How to easily get rid of the dark streaks on the roof shingles from the ground?

Old post but as as the owner of a professional roof cleaning company, a couple of things to point out here. First off...the black streaks are a cyanobacteria called Gloeocapsa Magna. It is NOT an algae. G.M. eats the calcium carbonate that is the base filler in most modern shingles. Left long enough it WILL do damage to the roof, both by eating the under layer which thins out the shingle and creating nitrogen fertilizer that acts as a nutrient, allowing for more destructive organisms such as lichen and moss to colonize the roof, In addition, by darkening the roof, this leads to more heat damage, not to mention increased HVAC costs during the cooling season.

Removing G.M. requires a chemical process to kill and remove the organism. PROFESSIONAL roof cleaners use a custom cleaning mix that is adjusted to the type of roof and environmental conditions to safely remove the organism while using no more than garden hose pressure to clean the roof. Pressue washing it is absolutely a no no, It is absolutely ineffective at removing G.M. and WILL violate your roofing warranty. Consumer based products are often too weak to do the job properly and most garden hose sprayers simply do not have the reach to effectively get every possible angle, corner and section of roofs, leading to rapid regrowth and annual repeats. A roof that has been properly and professionally cleaned should only need a re-clean about every 4-5 years, and that will be a light maintenance coating.

One thing to keep in mind...walking on a roof that is being cleaned is dangerous as most proper cleaning agents use a surfactant which aids in dwell time and to lift the dead organisms and dirt off the roof. A true professional roof cleaner will be fully licensed, bonded, insured and will operate in a professional and safe manner, including the use of proper fall protection anchors and harnessing if roof walking is necessary. Many of us in the industry have invested a lot of capital in building dedicated roof cleaning rigs with pump systems powerful enough to reach the top of the roof without having to walk on the surface.

Your best bet is to find a professional roof cleaner. You can check the RCIA forum to find a professional, licensed and bonded roof cleaner in your area.
