How do I find a good roof installer

I've used various contractors, got some bad results and some good. The best way is to get a contractor used by someone you know - call people who have used the contractor (at least 3-4 people). This has worked well for me

Great post Ed the Roofer.

Your area will be different in terms of licensing and regulations. Our webpage has a good article on how to choose a roofing company.

Good luck, be thorough!

call a roofing supply house and ask who they recommend. also check there contractors numbers for complaints. really the local roofing supply house is the best bet.

How do I find a good roof installer

I lived in Charleston, SC when Hugo hit. My state was overrun by out of state folks claiming to be roofers, repairman, etc. I am not sure if local people bothered to check references or even asked questions before hiring some of the out of town rip off artists. There were lots of unhappy home owners with no recourse against the people who did their repairs. No only do you need to ask for 2-3 references but you must actually call the references. Check for licensing, workers comp and insurance coverage. An ethical roofer or any construction trade will be happy to supply all the information you need to hire them with confidence. Your state government website can help you too. Check the licensing link. Usually there will be all sorts of helpful information. One more suggestion. Not only should you check the BBB for complaints but if the business is a corporation check the corporate link on your state website for any possible red flags. Be sure to ask if the company uses their own employees for the work or if they hire sub-contractors. You must know who is actually doing the work and who will issue the warranties. Good luck./

One piece of advise would be to go on Angies List and do a little research and have three contractors with high ratings do an estimate or in the case of an insurance claim an interview then estimate to your insurance company.

Had a customers a few months ago who wasn't an Angies List member call them and ask about my company. All they told him was he's got very good feedback. Won that job...

BBB is full of loop holes. You can basicly buy an A+ rating.

A friend of mine is a storm chaser, he does decent work.

Not a bad idea but I know one of the biggest supply houses in MN won't recommend anybody.

My yard recommends me quite a bit most turn into contracts.
