how can i stop water coming through the chimney?

All the Chimney breast from my house have been removed exept for the Loft,when it rains i could here drops of water falling on the RSJ in the Loft through the chimney (even though theres no stains on the bedroom ceiling but it does disturb ), i called the builders they removed the pots from the chimney and top of the chimney capped with a slate but i can still here little water drops falling but not as much as before ,how can i stop the water completely getting in from the chimney?
