Nail it down every 12", and sml bead of cement on top is a high wind standard
Doesnt add much time and really locks the starters down. Trowel the cement smooth before putting the starters down.
The way I specify it is to envelope the drip edge in ice dams flashing. This really works to keep any back up out of your home in the winter months. This assumes you have cladded the fascia already. Cut a 12 inch strip of ice dams material. stick 2 inches vertical to the fascia, then turn the rest up onto the deck, and stick it down. Install the drip edge. Bend it so it conforms to your slope. Now nail it about 24 inches on center. you DO NOT want to nail it too often. Metal expands, you need to give it room to do so. Overlap about three inches. DO NOT FASTEN THROUGH LAP. Install your first full width roll of ice dams along the eaves, and roll in the material to bond to the underlying strip creating an envelope for the drip edge. Cantilever starter and first course one knuckle (Inch) past break in drip.
