Hot Tin Roof
I live in a cool mountain area, shady and by a creek to boot. It's cool in the summer as well. I'm preparing to replace the roof on my Aframe with tin..and wondering if a white tin roof will help keep a home cooler, would a black tin roof would help with heating?

Hot Tin Roof
I live in a cool mountainous area, surrounded by tall trees, and by a creek to boot. Cold in the winter, cool in the summer. I'm preparing to reroof the Aframe I live in...and wondering...if a white tin roof will keep a building cooler, will a black tin roof help heat it?

Hot Tin Roof
IN MY OPINION:
the short answer is: NO. black roof vs. white roof will demonstrate a significant surface temperature differential -BUT- as it relates to your homes energy efficiency, it will not effect it to any measurable extent. Furthermore, the minimal differential will not create the outcome you are hoping. Chose the roof color you prefer (aesthetically) not based on the energy performance expectations. |
