I've got a hip roof house (24x28) that I'm adding an addition to. The new roof is also a hip roof and ties into the old roof by valley boards on the old roof. The addition is 7'x11' and has a ridge that's 84".
To vent the new roof I was planning on cutting a couple holes in the old roof deck. This would allow venting into the current attic and out through the attic fan.
My questions are:
Is this the best way to vent this?
If so, how big should the holes be in the old roof deck.
If not, would a separate venting option work?... Something like a ridge vent on the new-roof.
I was looking around the neighborhood, I see both options. At least I'm assuming that the roof is vented into the main attic.
I think I'm going to take the easiest route and just poke a couple of holes totaling about 2 sq feet in through the main roof at the highest point were the valley boards connect to the ridge.
